Agra is a blessed city in terms of various places of interest. The city is enriched by the presence of fine monuments with breath taking architectural designs and carvings. The stones and materials used in making these wonderful monuments were specially ordered from distant places.
The Taj Mahal - the monument of love is an eternal beauty, which attracts millions of visitors every year, from all over the world. Standing by the River Yamuna, the picturesque monument was built by emperor Shahjahan in the memory of his beloved Mumtaj Mahal. Another famous Agra Monument is the Agra Red Fort, which was started during Akbar's reign but completed by Shahjahan.
The sprawling fort made with red stone is a marvelous structure to see. Then there is the Jehangir Palace, is a fine blend of Hindu and Central Asian Architectural patterns. The palace is adorned with beautiful ornamental paintings. Octagonal Tower is the place where emperor Shahjahan spent his last days. A visit to the Tower is a must, where the emperor was kept in confinement by his son Aurangzeb.
