Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar

On November 24, 1969, Guru Nanak Dev University was established in Amritsar to celebrate the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar is spread towards the west of Amritsar over a total area of 500 acres.

The University is both a residential and an affiliating university of Punjab. The idealism of the University is depicted on it's emblem which is "Guru's wisdom illumines all". The 102 colleges of the five districts like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Nawan Shehar, Kapurthala and Gurdaspur come under the jurisdiction of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.


Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar has 39 academic departments including department of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Physics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Applied Chemistry, Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Zoology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics Technology, Architecture,Commerce and Business Management, History, Library and Information Science, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, School of Social Sciences, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit,Pali and Prakrit, Foreign Languages etc. There are two regional campuses of the University are at Jalandhar and Gurdaspur, and two constituent colleges


This is first University of North India to get the highest Five Star Level Status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has also been selected by UGC for Centre of Excellence in sports considering its praiseworthy achievements in sports.


Within the span of 38 years, the infrastructure has developed a lot with informative computerized library, well equipped laboratories, Academic Staff College, Instrumentation Centre, Physiotherapy Centre, All India Services Training centre, Language Labortary, Multimedia Centre, Botanical Garden, Computer Centre with all kind of facilities, Placement Unit and many more.
