Hospitals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands health feature a number of hospitals and health units. The hospitals are sometimes located in the most remote areas of the tribal islands. The workers of the health department sometime take in immense travels to mete out health services in the dense forest regions of the islands, among people who have traditionally been averse or ignorant of facilities provided by the department of health at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, owing to the commitment of the health workers of the area, there have been a marked improvement in Andaman and Nicobar Islands health profile.

UNICEF and Andaman and Nicobar Health

Andaman and Nicobar health has continued to be a big problem. Despite the best of the efforts from the government of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the health indicator still fails to show much promising results. The main reasons behind the poor health of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the illiteracy and the overall lack of health awareness among much of the tribal population of the region. The forests and the many inland streams, coupled with the intense rainfall sometime cause outbreak of diseases in certain areas of the islands, which do not have the excellent health infrastructure of the cities. UNICEF has taken note of the hazards, specially after the tsunami outbreak and have sent health workers to work in the state and improve the condition of the area's health profile.
