The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister on 14th May, 2004 by the Andhra Pradesh Governor S S Barnala. His oath to office marked the return of the Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh after nine years.
Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy comes from the small town of Pulivendula in Cuddapah district. His inspiration was his father who actively protested against the feudal lords of the backward Rayala Seema region. The dynamism and temperament of the honorable Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister has been inherited from his father who was brutally murdered in1998.
The family of Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy has made several contributions to improve the backward region of Pulivendula. After completion of his degree in medicine from M.R College of Gulbarga, the honorable Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister served as a medical officer at CSI Campbell Hospital in Jammalamadugu. He established the charitable hospital at Pulivendula in memory of his loving father Sri Y. S. Raja Reddy. Some of the other institutions established by the family include the Polytechnic and a Degree College, Raveendranatha Elementary and High School and the Junior College for girls.
Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy joined the political front as young legislators in the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly in the year 1978. He has been elected four times to the Lok Sabha from the Cuddapah Constituency and four times to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Pulivendula constituency. He has also been elected as the president of the APCC twice.
The honorable Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is dedicated to the upheaval of the downtrodden and strives hard to promote their cause in Andhra Pradesh.
