Andhra Pradesh Cities

The Andhra Pradesh cities have developed well as tourist centers in the country. The State Government has promoted tourism in the cities of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh cities are known for their pilgrim centers and its architectural beauty.


Some of the chief cities of tourist interest are:


Hyderabad:


The capital city of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad is located on the banks of the River Musi. Hyderabad and its twin city, Secunderabad have a history that dates back to 400 years. There are several tourists spots in this city. The majestic Charminar and the Golconda Fort are located in this city. The holy mosque of Mecca Masjid is one of the largest in India that can accommodate 10,000 pilgrims in its compound. The city is also well known for its development in the software technology.


Vishakhapatnam:


The city of Vishakhapatnam is surrounded by hills and sea. The Bay of Bengal lies on its borders. The coast breaks at the headland called the Dolphin's Nose. The city is watered by the Godavari and the Indravati river. Also known as 'Vizag', this city has the following tourist attractions:

    Vijayawada:


    The city of Vijayawada is located on the banks of the River Krishna. It is also known as 'Bezawada' or the 'City of Victory'. The city is bound by the Indrakiladri hills on the west. The city is well known among the pilgrims who visit the city for pilgrimage. The mangoes of the city have acquired international fame. The specialty of the city is the pickle making industry.


    Warangal:


    An ancient capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, this city has a historical importance among the cities of Andhra Pradesh. The city is known for its temples and forts. The most popular attraction of the city is the thousand pillared temple that was built in 1163 by Rudra Deva in the Kakatiya architectural style.


    Tirupati:


    This city is one of the most visited pilgrim cities in the country. The temple dedicated to the Lord Venkateshwara is situated in this city atop the Tirumala hills. The temple is popular among the devotees and is often visited by them. The city of Tirupati is located in the Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh.


    Other than these cities, there are some other Andhra Pradesh cities of importance. These are:
