Industry and Infrastructure

The economy of Andhra Pradesh is shared by a wide variety of industries. All the rich endowments on Andhra Pradesh is coupled with enterprising human resources and advanced infrastructure facilities.

The automotive component manufacturing industry has a major share in the economic map of Andhra Pradesh. An abundance of skilled and non-skilled laborers helped the industry flourish in Andhra Pradesh and today there are more than 100 automotive component manufacturing companies in the State.

Andhra Pradesh recently is pioneering in the area of Medical/Human and Animal Healthcare. The government is trying to act as a facilitator and a catalyst in the manufacturing and developmental process of biotech units, which otherwise would act as a private sector. The massive Genome Valley project would further facilitate biotech activities providing employment to a large section of society. The 200-acres ICICI Knowledge Park with advanced technology, is providing ready-to-occupy research and development laboratories for use by all including small, medium or large enterprises.

Andhra Pradesh produces over 9.57 million tones of fruits, vegetables and spices. Andhra Pradesh is the largest egg producer in India 1,000 kilometer of coastline, 8,577 kilometer river length and 102 reservoirs spread over an area of 2.34 lakh hectares have helped Andhra Pradesh develop as the principal producer of marine and fresh water foods, including fish and prawn. The total value of marine exports from India is Rs.64 billion among which Andhra Pradesh accounts for Rs.22 billion of this. These statistics alone speaks of the flourishing food and agro-based industry of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh is blessed with natural beauty, pilgrimages and areas of historical importance which attract a large number of tourists every year. As a result tourism is a thriving industry that acts as direct and indirect sources of income for a wide section of people.

Medical Tourism deserves special mention with some medical centers of excellence are appealing people from the rest of the country as well as from abroad. Hyderabad alone accounts for around one third of India’s total bulk drug production with good infrastructure, research and development facilities and trained human resource. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is developing 'Pharma City' near Visakhapatnam on 2200 acres of land area.

IT and ITES are growing at a brilliant rate in Andhra Pradesh with advanced infrastructure attracting skilled manpower from all of the country. World Class institutes are in abundance producing high quality talents that are coveted throughout the world. Andhra Pradesh is home to 48 different mineral deposits and is the second largest store house of Mineral Resources in India. As a result, mineral-based industries and natural gas excavations also contribute largely in the economic map of Andhra Pradesh. The 175-acre Apparel Export Park supports 117 plots for the manufacturers and exporters of apparels, both made-ups and hosiery.

The pro-active Government of Andhra Pradesh constantly keeps in mind to provide for industrial infrastructure, social infrastructure as well as infrastructure for the booming software industry. Hyderabad International Airport operates from Begumpet and Shamshabad, apart from the Visakhapatnam Airport. With 974 kilometer long coastline Andhra Pradesh also boasts of the renowned Visakhapatnam Port apart from Kakinada, Krishnapatnam, Nizampatnam and Gangavaram ports. Specialized industrial parks, uninterrupted power on choice to the industries, well-built road network, railway, and well established telecommunication are reasons for the development of Andhra Pradesh industrially.
