Structure
The Municipal Administration is headed by the Honorable Chief Minister of the state who appoints under him or her a “Chief Secretary” and a “Principal Secretary to the Government” to execute and implement the various administrative decisions of the concerned authorities. The “Principal Secretary to the Government”, further appoints other important officials of the state who are assigned with specific departments and sectors of the urban areas. All the important officials of the Municipal Administration are appointed by the Central or the State Government who have successfully competed the “All India Civil Services Examination” or the “State Civil Services Examination”.
Functions
The Municipal Administration of Andhra Pradesh is entrusted with numerous important “Functions”. The Governing Bodies implement and execute the various decisions taken at the ministerial level of the state to ensure its citizen better conditions of living. Some of the notable functions of the Municipal Administration are:
- Sufficient supply of clean drinking water to the citizens
- Decent sanitary conditions in the urban areas
- Construction of public toilets and drains
- Construction of amusement parks for recreation of the citizens
- Enrollment of births and deaths in the area
- Sufficient lighting on either sides of the streets
- Appraisal of the taxes, like property tax, municipal tax, and water tax that are to be paid by the citizens
