Arunachal Pradesh forests are not just abodes to the wildlife and flora but is also home to various local tribes who look up to the resources in the forests for their living. The forests of Arunachal Pradesh comprises of around 500 species of birds, 85 terrestrial animals, 5000 species of plants and other creatures such as reptiles, insects, butterflies, etc.

Alpine Forests
These are found at a height of 4000 meters to 5500 meters above the timber line. The main species of this kind of forests at Arunachal Pradesh are Rhododendron anthopogon, Rhododendron thomsonii, Saxifraga sp., Rheum sp. etc.
Sub-tropical Forests
This type can be traced in the regions situated at a height of 800 meters to 1900 meters. The forest is covered mainly by the species belonging to Fagaceae family. The main species of this forests are Ulmus lancifolium, Michelia oblonga, Engelhardia spicata, Schima wallichji, orchids, ferns and some climbers.
Temperate Forests
They are found in almost all the districts and can be divided into Temperate Conifer forests and Temperate Broad-leaved Forests.Tropical Forests
These are mainly sited at an altitude of 900 meters. They can be located in all the districts situated in the foothills. They are further categorized into tropical evergreen and tropical semi-evergreen forests.Pine Forests
These type of forests are found at an altitude of 1000 meters to 1800 meters in between the temperate and sub-tropical belt. The main species found here are P.merkusii, Pinus roxburghii and P. wallichiana.Apart from these there are some secondary or not so prominent forests in Arunachal Pradesh that mainly comprise of grasslands, bamboo forests and degraded forests. To protect the diverse vegetation of Arunachal Pradesh forests, many plantation schemes such as Apna Van, Integrated Wasteland Development Project, Aided Natural Regeneration, etc. have been launched.
