The Animal Kingdom in Arunachal Pradesh is very larg e. The state comprises of 85 varieties of terrestrial animals including 25 such mammals which have been listed under the Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Another important mammal group, which is a part of the animal kingdom at Arunachal Pradesh, is the cat family. The state holds the distinction of having the four largest members of the cat family i.e., tiger, leopard, snow leopard and clouded leopard. Among other species of mammals, Arunachal Pradesh also houses Himalayan Black bear, Goral, and Red Panda in the regions that lie in high altitudes.
Herbivores are also part of the animal kingdom around Arunachal Pradesh. The main attractions among them are the elephants, wild buffalo and the gaur. Shrew, Mongoose, civets, and rodents such as squirrels, rats, etc. are also part of the animal kingdom of Arunachal Pradesh. Another attraction at Arunachal Pradesh is the mithun which can be found in both wild and domesticated form.
Two national parks have been set up at Nandapha and Mouling respectively and eight wildlife sanctuaries at Itanagar, Kane, Ering, Pakhui, Kamlang, Mehao, Eagle's Nest and Daying by the forest department of Arunachal Pradesh so as to protect the animal kingdom in Arunachal Pradesh and especially some rare species of it which are getting extinct.
