Formation of the Gauhati High Court in Arunachal Pradesh
The circuit bench of the Gauhati High Court at Arunachal Pradesh has been operative ever since the formation of Arunachal Pradesh as an independent state. However, it was granted permanent status in 2000, by Sri KR Narayanan, the President of India at that point. It was a moment of great joy for the Gauhati High Court, since the High Court in Itanagar was a new feather in the cap of the judicial system of the northeastern region. It was formed with two chambers, a registrar and two deputy registrars. It was inaugurated by Mr. Justice SN Phukan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India as he released the cause list on its first working day.
