National political parties in Arunachal Pradesh play a very important role in the political scenario of the state. Indian National Congress (INC) is the biggest of the Arunachal Pradesh national political parties. With 34 members in the state legislative assembly, INC enjoys widespread popularity in the state. The head office of INC in Arunachal Pradesh is located in the Congress Bhavan at the E-Sector of Itanagar at Papumpare, Arunachal Pradesh. Smt. Omem Moyong Deori, ex-member of parliament is the President of the Pradesh Congress committee. A wing of the Pradesh congress committee of Arunachal Pradesh INC also operates from New Friends Colony in New Delhi. Sri Dorjee Khandu is the chief minister and the leader of the Vidhan Sabha of the state.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh
Bharatiya Janata Party is the second most important of the national level political parties at Arunachal Pradesh. Although it fared well in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, its result in the assembly elections of 2005 were far from encouraging. However, that has given a new impetus for the state wing of this national level political party in Arunachal Pradesh to upgrade its organization in the state. Sri Tapen Siga is the state president for BJP, with his office at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. With its widespread political base and determination, BJP continues to be a major national political party in Arunachal Pradesh.
