Changlang


Changlang is located within the district of Arunachal Pradesh of the same name. The headquarters of the district are located in this small town of the state in the extreme north eastern corner of India. Although often plagued by problems of terrorism and Naga insurgency, Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh is lately attracting some degree of industrialization and NGO activity because of its high literacy rate and geo-political significance. It is located just on the east of Tirap and on the extreme south of the state.

Changlang of Arunachal Pradesh is a not a very highly populated city. The average literacy rate is much higher than the national average at well over 70 percent. Tangasa, Singpho and the Tutsas are the three main tribal ethnicities of Changlang at Arunachal Pradesh. There are also inhabitants of other tribes in the city, some of whom like the Chakma are immigrants from Bangladesh.

Although industrialization is not rampant in this hilly district, yet there have been some industrialization that has been observed in the city of Changlang. Changlang is also the working capital of many NGOs who work for the betterment of many tribes who inhabit the district. These include international NGOs as well as Indian NGOs. The growth of terrorist activities in the district and the basic difficulty of road facilities leading to the city have put Changlang behind curtains of obscurity for a very long time. However, recently people are waking up to the importance of the city and the Indian government have pumped up its reform activities in the area. Although plenty still remains undone for the place, yet the growing importance of Changlang speaks volumes for the potential development of the entire district.
