Tirap District


Tirap district is one of the prominent districts of Arunachal Pradesh which very recently is tapping into the urban culture of the modern world. The vibrant folk culture of the tribes there are the main attraction of the tourists which tempt them to get into that place.

The Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh is the second smallest district of this state which shares a boarder with Assam and Nagaland along with Mayanmar. The Changlang District is situated on the eastern boarder of this district. The Tirap District is situated streaching over an area of 2,362 sq. km. And the population density of this district is around 42.0 per sq. km.

The Tirap District has three sub divisions including Deomali sub division, Longding sub division and Kanubari sub division and different circles. Khosana under the jurisdiction of the Deputy Commissioner is the headquarters of Tirap District.

This district is flooded with various vegetables in different seasons. Heavy downpour of the monsoon rains during the rainy season helps the grasslands to produce several seasonal green vegetables. The jhum cultivation is a major employment source for the tribes of the hilly lands. The economy of the Tirap District in Arunachal Pradesh also largely depends on some government industries, contract works conducted by the state government, local handicrafts and on forest resources.

Tutsa, Nocte and Wancho are the major tribes of this district. The peasants of this district mainly converse in Hindi, Bengali, English and in some vernacular languages like Assamese, Wancho, Nocte. Oriya festival of the Wanchos, the Tutsa Pongtu festival and the Loku festival of the Noctes are the major festivals enjoyed by the tribes there.

The forests of the Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh houses some rare species of wild animals like boars, tigers,leopards,bears, barking deer, jackals, rodents etc.
