The town of Yingkiong is the administrative headquarters of Upper Siong district. It is situated on the left bank of the Siang river, from which the district derived its name. Yingkiong in Arunachal Pradesh is an updated town with all the modern facilities like connectivity, telephone and Internet facilities.
The town of Yingkiong in Upper Siang district is the home for indigenous tribes like Adi, Idu Mishmi, Memba and Khamba. The colorful festivals of these tribes stand for the vibrancy of their spirit. Events like Dihang, Aran, Lossar, Reh, Solung add spice to their otherwise hard life. It is during these festivals, ethnic handloom products and handicrafts are put to display in temporary stalls. Festivals in Yingkinog are celebrated on 13th and 14th January every year. This festival includes local dances, food festival, traditional beauty pageant, crafts bazaar and tours to the local tourists spots.
The places of interest in Yingkiong are:
- Tuting-Gelling Circuit: Dhruba, Torgya and Lossar festivals of Membas, a Nyingma sect of Mahayana Buddhist inhabits, are the main attraction of the place.
- Mariyang and Pekimodi Cicuit: This place overlooks the confluence of Yamne and Yammeng river.
- Yingkiong--Tuting-Tsitapuri Circuit: With more than 108 lakes, it is yet another center of pilgrimage.
- Mouling National wildlife Sanctuary: Put up in 1982, this 483 sq km long park is the seat of wide varieties of flora and fauna.
