The Deori tribe bears some unique trademarks which precisely demarcated them from the other tribes that inhabit this region. One of them is the fact that the Deori of Arunachal Pradesh is bifurcated into a number of wee groups. These small fractions are also known as 'khels'.

These khels are bestowed with the names of Tengapania, Dibongia and Borgoya. These groups or khels are further sub-divided into a huge number of clans.
