The north eastern state Arunachal Pradesh is remarkable for its folk culture. Among the twenty distinguished tribes the Khambas and Membas community reside in West Siang District. The northern part of this district is dominated by the Khambas and Membas tribe.
The Khambas and Membas are the tribes who have still successfully hold the magnificent pottery art which is nearly to lost its identity from Arunachal Pradesh. As these folks are the believers of lord Buddha thus their pottery art frequently reflects the image of the deity Buddha. Other than this they also make many decorated pottery items and this art brings bread and butter for many houses.
Wood crafting and wood craving are another beautiful craftsmanship practiced by these communities. The age long tradition of crafting is still followed by this folk. They produce some excellent wooden materials which have got lots of appreciations. The Khambas and Membas in Arunachal Pradesh regularly made colorful painted wooden masks.
Agriculture is a prime profession for Khambas and Membas tribes. Along with other vegetables they largely produce maize and millet and also produce barle and cotton and barle.
The Khambas and Membas tribes are rich in communal harmony.
