Mishmi


TThe unspoiled beauty and floral wonders of Aryunachal Pradesh have opened its the door to all the nature enthusiasts across the globe. Besides this the tribal tourism is a major attraction for the tourists outside. The tribal life of the Mishmis tribes are one of the major attraction for the travelers.

In the districts of the Upper Dibang Valley and the Lower Dibang Valley, the majority of the population of Lohit is constituted by the Mishmis tribes. The Mishmis tribes of Arunachal Pradesh are divided into three major tribes naming Digarus or Taroan, Mijus or Kaman and Idus or Chulikatas. All these sub tribes are having their individual heritage and culture.

Bamboo crafting is a largely practiced art for the Mishmis tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The Mishmis are the fine architectures in making beautiful decorative materials out of bamboos.The Mishmis are specially dexterous in making beautiful bamboo and cane crafts. Cane and bamboo are used to make domestic requirements like baskets, wall hangings etc.

The Mishmis women are all very good weavers. The materials they use for weaving are wool, bark fibers, cotton and human hair. They make some excellent coats which are having great demands across the world. Mainly the Idu Mishmi women are expert in weaving and makes beautiful blouses for ladies and comfortable coats. This community have gained much reputation in the art of weaving.

Trading is a prime profession over the years for the Mishmis of Arunachal Pradesh. They trade Medicinal plants, animal skins, deer musk which helps to earn a good amount of revenue for them.

The customs and cultures of the Mishmis tribe together form a solid community.
