Singpho


Arunachal Pradesh, a land of green forests and deep rivers which is a heaven for the nature lovers. Blessed with a perfect climatic condition this state is the homeland of numerous tribes which have remarked this place as a famous tribal destination for the visitors. There are more than twenty tribes of which the Singphos belongs to a different separate category.

The entire population of Arunachal Pradesh is distributed to several tribes who are having their distinguished socio-economic culture and background. The Singphos of Arunachal Pradesh though are very small in number but represent a organized community of Arunachal Pradesh. These people represent a segment of the Burmese tribe Kachin.

The Singphos who inhabit the banks of the Noa Dehang river and Tengapani river are very religious in nature and popularly believe in Buddhism and follow the customs of this religion. They are very superstitious and still believe in the power of spirit and ghosts.

Due to the favorable climate of Arunachal Pradesh the Singphos unlike many other tribes have taken up agriculture as their prime profession. Heavy rainfall during rainy seasons have assured a good climatic condition in Arunachal Pradesh. Thus, many of the tribes have taken up crop and vegetable cultivation as their main profession.

Thought blacksmithy is not very famous among the tribes of Arunachal Pradeshh but a particular segment of the Singphos tribe community still practice this art. The woman folk of the Singphos tribe are very good in weavers. They have an excellent artistic sense and thus they make wonderful cloths with limited materials. The produce some exclusive collection of coats, shawls, carpets etc. which have gain popularity in the state and outside.

A visit to Arunachal Pradesh will give the chance to explore the unspoiled heritage of the Arunachal Pradesh Tribe Singphos.
