Arunachal Pradesh weaving is one of the major arts and crafts of this Indian state. Weaving of Arunachal Pradesh is one of the prime ways of living for the women of the entire state. What makes the weaving of this state stand out is its wonderful and unique color combination. The weaving folk of the state dye the fibers with a variety of colors like green, scarlet, yellow, dark blue and black.
The Nishi women are well known in the region for their expertise in weaving at Arunachal Pradesh . The items produced by them that are in demand include blankets, pudu and cotton skirts and cloth.
The items made by the Apatani women thats sell like hot cakes are shawls, cloths made of cotton and coats. The coats and shawls are woven for special purposes.
The weaving products of the different tribal groups of Arunachal Pradesh vary from each other. For example, the Monpa women use wool, cotton and bark fiber as the weaving materials, while the women of the Sherdukpen tribe does not use wool.
One can observe a great deal of impact of the Bhutanese as well as Tibetan lineage in the weaving in Arunachal Pradesh because of the geographical proximity of these places.
Such impacts are most strongly felt in the Monpa weaving industry. The loom used by the women of this tribal group bears testimony of the external influence. The most popular weaving products of the Monpas are shawls, coats, carpets, sashes and bags.
