Akashiganga


The north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is not only famous for its natural beauty and tribal communities but also is a major pilgrimage center. One such unique pilgrimage site of Arunachal Pradesh is Akashiganga.

According the Hindu mythology, the Akashiganga in Arunachal Pradesh is the place where the head of Devi Sati fell. The story further discloses that Lord Shiva got furious at the sight of the dead body of his beloved wife Sati. He took the dead body of Sati into his arms and out of agony he started doing Tandava Nritya (a dance form of Lord Shiva signifying destruction). At that time Lord Vishnu with the help of his Sudarshan Chakara tactfully cut the body of Sati into pieces whereby her head fell at this place and came to be known as Akashiganga.

Akashiganga at Arunachal Pradesh is located 12 km. far from Malinithan Temple and is a very sacred place of the state. The best time to visit this pilgrimage center are the months between November to February.

To come to Akashiganga of Arunachal Pradesh, the nearest airport is in Dibrugarh or Leelabari from where one have to come down to Itanagar to avail a bus or other vehicle. Car and buses are also available from Malinithan.

The Sacred Kund located on the way to Akashiganga is a very mysterious place. One has to go down upto 100 meters into the temple where one can see a glittering like thing from a distance. But as one gets closer to the object, it disappears.

People even come in large numbers to take a holy dip into that Kund which is believed to wash off their sins and also has got a medicinal value of curing disease.
