Bhishmaknagar Fort


The Bhishmaknagar Fort is located at Roing in the district of Dibang Valley. This fort is of immense historical importance. The entire region of Roing is well-known for the Bhishmaknagar Fort. This fort owes its name to a king named Bhismaka.

The excavations of the Bhishmaknagar Fort at Arunachal Pradesh are very valuable as they represent some of the earliest examples of intermingling between two cultures. These two cultures belong to the tribal people of the place and the Aryans. The archaeological evidences of the Fort date back to the 4th century AD.

The Bhishmaknagar Fort is a site that is associated with Idu Mishmis. It reminds one of the prosperity and splendor of the highly advanced civilization of the place of Bhishmaknagar. Bhishmaknagar used to be a major center of the Chutiya dynasty from 12th century AD to 16th century AD.

This famous fort is situated at a place between the two rivers of Dibang and Dikrong at the lower region of the mountains. This historical fort was discovered during an excavatory expedition in the time period 1996-97.

The Bhishmaknagar Fort of Arunachal Pradesh is mainly constructed with bricks made of clay. This fort also exhibits some fascinating specimens of pottery. The fort is more or less semi-circular in shape, though a bit stretched at both the ends. The total area covered by the fort is 10 square kms.

To visit the Bhishmaknagar Fort in Arunachal Pradesh, you have to travel to Roing. This place can be reached from the neighboring state of Assam both via air and road. By road, you can travel from Tinsukia to Roing after going through Sadiya and Dhola. The airport closest to Roing are located at Guwahati and Dibrugarh.
