Itanagar


Itanagar was crowned as the capital of Arunachal Pradesh on 20th April, 1974 and thus bears a historical importance. It has also been recognized as the land of the dawn-lit mountains. People from different corners of the world come to this city round the year to explore the beauty of it.

The Ganga Lake is a popular picnic spot in Itanagar of Arunachal Pradesh. Ganga lake is located 6 kms from the Itanagar town. The panoramic view of the lush green forest adjacent to the lake has created a heavenly atmosphere there. The Buddhist Monastery which is a popular Buddhist pilgrimage center is also a must visit destination of the place. This monastery reflects the Tibetan and Buddhist influence and assures a good natural view of the whole city.

The Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum of Itanagar at Arunachal Pradesh is another worth visiting place of that city which has a large library section. The display section of this museum exhibits textiles, handicrafts, wood carvings, musical instruments and archaeological findings, etc.

Other important tourist destination of Itanagar include North-Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology which reflects an innovative pattern of study, Arunachal University, Donyi-Polo Vidya Bhawan, a public school of Itanagar, Indira Gandhi Park and Government Piggery and Poultry Farm.

As the tourists from various corners of India and outside are showing more and more interest towards this city and are coming in large numbers every year, many hotels have mushroomed centering the city to cater to the needs of the tourists. To name some hotels of Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh are Hotel Bomdila, Hotel Simang, Hotel Itafort, Field Hostel, Hotel Donyi Polo, Hotel Subansiri, Circuit House, etc. and all of them provide comfortable accommodation to the tourists.

The roadway communication system is also very favorable for Itanagar.
