Dibrugarh University


The Dibrugarh University was conceived and established under the Dibrugarh University Act of 1965. The act was enacted in the legislative assembly of the state of Assam and the university was set up in the region of Rajabheta in the town of Dibrugarh.

The region of Dibrugarh is propitious for the study of art and culture of the region of Assam. The various tribes settled near and around Dibrugarh offer an opportunity for the students of Anthropology and Sociology to study the ethnic culture and dialectical difference in language. The field of research and study is enhanced due to the location of the university. The tea plantations occupy 60 acres of the total 500 acres of campus area. The jurisdiction of the university stretches over seven districts encompassing the regions of Tinsukhia, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Jorhat and Lakhimpur. The university has received the recognition from the National Assessment and Accredition Council and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The university offers several post graduate and under graduate courses in various disciplines. The Dibrugarh University is flourished by several amenities that include the essential counseling and guidance cell. Medical and Internet facilities are also available in the campus of the university. There are opportunities for the meritorious students to earn scholarships that are awarded to the under graduate and the postgraduate students of the university.
