Tezpur University is located in the district of
Sonitpur of the state of
Assam. The university was set up with the authorization passed under the Act of Parliament in the year 1994. It is an established and recognized seat of learning in the state of Assam.
The university statutes states that the institute will provide for courses especially in the post graduate levels that are interdisciplinary and employment oriented. The statute also stated that the university would offer courses that encourage research on the surrounding area and promote the study of the ethnic and cultural heritage of the state of Assam.
