Assam Chief Minister


The Assam Chief Minister is Shri Tarun Gogoi was elected and sworn to the office of the Chief Minister of Assam on 17th May in the year 2001. He lives with his family of wife and two children in the Chief Minister's Residence in Guwahati.

Mr Tarun Gogoi was born to Dr. Kamaleswar Gogoi and Usha Gogoi on the 1st of April 1936. The Honorable Chief Mister of Assam has received degrees in law from the Guwahati University in the state of Assam. He had a great interest in politics from his youth and was marked by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who appointed him to lead the youth community of the state of Assam in the year 1971. Associated with the Indian National Congress party, Mr Tarun Gogoi was elected to the parliament several times from 1971. He had been the joint secretary to the All India Congress Committee in 1976 and the general secretary in 1985. The honorable chief minister had held the position of the President of Pradesh Congress Committee in Assam from 1986 to 1990. He held office as the Union Minister of State in the ministry of food from 1991 to 1993 and was reelected as the Union Minister in the ministry of food processing in 1993 to 1995. He was also a consultative committee member in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas and railways.
