Current government of Assam


The reigns of the administration of the Assam Government has remained in the hands of the Congress save a brief spell when the BJP took over for a span of two years. At present, however the current government of Assam lies under the jurisdiction of the Indian National Congress. The Congress finally came to power after nearly two decades of juggling the seats with the Assam Gono Parishad (AGP).

The Governor, Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, spearheads the governance of Assam. The former Army Chief was born to Late Shri Raj Dalpat Singh on 20th November 1935 and holds a glorious academic record followed by a career path with path noteworthy milestones at every turning point. He received his Senior Cambridge Degree from Mayo College, Ajmer followed by an M.Sc in Defence Studies from Madras University.

A council of ministers assists the governor. The ministry is led by Shri. Tarun Gogoi who was born in Jorhat District's Rangajan Tea Estate on 1st April 1936. A proficient lawyer by profession, Shri. Gogoi's leadership skills and convincing abilities came into the limelight pretty early in his career. An eminent member of the Students' Union and the Commandership of Students' Volunteer Corps during his college days, the Hon'ble Chief Minister made his mark in the field of politics when he was elected as a member of the Jorhat Municipal Board. This was followed by stints of time when he served as the General Secretary of All India congress Committee and the President of Assam Pradesh Congress (I) Committee before his present designation as the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam.
