One of the oldest departments of the state of Assam is the Revenue Department, which works for regulating and allotting the land for public use. The department also works for the collection of land revenue.
Panchayat and Rural Development Department was established in the year 1952. The chief objective of the department is to obtain upliftment in the rural areas of Assam. To attain the objective, the department engages in several programs and activities encouraging the rural people to participate in self-employment programs. The department also works to ensure that proper infrastructure is available to the people in the remote villages of Assam.
Another government department of Assam is the Assam Public Health Engineering Department. The department promotes hygiene in the state of Assam and is in charge of sanitation and supply of water in the state. The department undertakes programs in the rural and urban areas of the state.
