Assam Lok Sabha


Lok Shabha is one of the houses of Parliament. This house is also known as the Lower House of Parliament. The representatives to the Lok Sabha are chosen by the people by the process of direct voting. By the constitutional acts the maximum number of members of Lok Sabha can be 552. Among these total number of members, upto 530 of them have to be elected from the states, upto 20 members are to be elected from the Union Territories and only upto 2 members would be nominated by the President of India if he considers that this community has not been represented in the house adequately. Assam Lok Sabha being a part of the legislative body, it has a significant role in law implementation.

The membership of the elected members of Lok Sabha is distributed in the manner so that the ratio between the total population of the state and the number of seats assigned to each state remains almost same in case of all the states in India. There are fourteen constituencies in the Assam Lok Sabha. The members of the Lok Sabha of Assam is thus fourteen in number and they are affiliated to different political parties in Assam like INC, BJP, IND and AGP. Some of the members of the constituency of Assam representing Assam in the the Lok Sabha are Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya, A. F. Golam Osmani, Arun Kumar Sarma and Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary.
