The picturesque of state of Assam, the gateway to the northeast is noted for its political activity. Formerly known as Kamrup and shrouded in age-old history, the Parliamentary Constituencies of Assam and are responsible for the state's administration.
The Assam government goes great length to ensure that there is adequate representation of the state in the Lok Sabha. The parliamentary constituencies are formed as per the number of seats in the state's legislative assembly of the state. Assam's reservation consists of 14 seats in its name in the legislative assembly. The miniscule representation of Assam in the parliament is a glaring contrast when compared to its neighbor West Bengal that has bagged a handful of 294 seats.
Among the 14 parliamentary constituencies, provisions have been made for to protect the interests of the minorities as well as candidates from the scheduled castes and the scheduled tribes by electing their very own representatives.
At present the Indian National Congress is in power with a powerful government formed under the competent leadership of Chief Minister, Shri Tarun Gogoi and Governor Lieutenant General Shri. Ajai Singh and comprises of 14 parliamentary constituencies and 126 assembly constituencies.
