Jatinga

Exotic landscape, juicy oranges and colorful and attractive birds represent the beautiful village of Jatinga. Jatinga was the brain child of U Lakhan Bang Suchiang who led to the establishment of his dream project of cultivating beetle leaves. However the picturesque village of Jatinga came to the limelight with the huge cultivation of fine quality oranges and pineapples.

Jatinga is blessed with the bounty of nature. One can experience the rich flora and fauna of the region in its most natural form in Jatinga. Far from the maddening crowd of the cities, the calm and serene surrounding of Jatinga relieves one from the stress and strains of daily mundane life.

Apart from the varied and tasty horticultural productions, Jatinga is known for its peculiar yearly episode when large numbers of birds migrate to the beautiful village and commit suicide. No one has been able to solve the enigma surrounding the issue of suicide of the colorful birds. This unusual happening attracts several tourists who want to experience the strange yet gruesome law of nature.

The village of Jatinga has a center for preserving the fruits of the area popularly known as the Kanch. However, due to lack of proper infrastructural facilities, the center has become an obsolete unit without much value that has affected the financial condition of the poor villagers.

The government of Assam has taken charge of the alarmingly adverse economic condition of the villagers and has decided to take some concrete steps for the betterment of the poor and innocent villagers of Jatinga.
