Spread over a geographical area of 2257 sq. km, the district of Nalbari encompasses a population of 1138184 (as per the census data of 2001).

Agriculture forms the backbone of the district of Nalbari. The mighty River Brahmaputra flows through the district of Nalbari and makes it suitable to grow various types of agricultural crops. The district of Nalbari is endowed with an extreme climatic condition of very warm summers and chilled winters.

The district of Nalbari has a sizeable portion of its geographical area as forest. The vast stretch of forest is blessed with many rare species of plants and animal life that adds to the biodiversity of the region. However, agriculture being the main occupation of the people of Nalbari, some portion of the fertile land is used for cultivation of wheat, paddy, linseed, mustard, lentil, jute, pea and a variety of agricultural products. Nalbari district is also blessed with many important registered small scale cottage industries and handloom sectors that helps to strengthen the financial condition of the state.

Endowed with a natural and scenic beauty the district has many important places of tourist interest like the Jain Temple, Hari Mandir, and Angradhowa Pukhuri that attracts several tourists. The heterogeneous culture of Nalbari is portrayed through the various famous dance forms of the district like the Bihu dance, Rabha dance and the Bihu Husari.
