Kaziranga National Park is supposedly the oldest and foremost national park of Assam. The national park that attained the distinction of a national park in the year 1974 has also been accorded the elite status of an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Apart from the famed and near extinct one horned Rhinoceros, Sloth Bear, Tiger, Leopard cat, Jungle cat, Elephant, Indian bison, Swamp Deer, Samber, Hog Deer, Jackal, Goose, Hog badger, Capped langur, Hollock gibbon Hornbills, Ibis, Cormorants, Egret, Heron fishing eagle inhabit the secluded forest premises. Hollock Gibbon, the sole varieties of apes that reside in the Indian subcontinent also inhabit the evergreen forests of the Kaziranga National Park. The park not only shelters the aquatic birds but also several varieties of migratory birds that fly down to the park to seek refuge in its cozy sanctum.
The park officials have arranged for cars and jeeps, which tourists can board to visit the park. They can also ride into the park in the imperial grandeur of the Indian Maharajah. Kaziranga National Park is well connected by rail, road and air, which make it a popular tourist destination.
