There are a variety of tourist attractions to visit in and around the city of Bangalore. They are of religious, historical and contemporary interest, and are worth a visit. Bangalore's chief historical sights date back to the 18th-century reign of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. Bangalore is also called the Garden City and has some lovely parks, which date over two centuries.
LAL BAGH
The botanical gardens at Lal Bagh are a must see in Bangalore. The name 'Lal Bagh' refers to the beautiful, blooming red roses that blossom throughout the year in these gardens. The park has some rare species of plants brought from Persia, Afghanistan and France. It has an intricate watering system for irrigation. It has many fountains, lotus pools and flowerbeds. It also has one of the oldest rock formations on earth actually dating back to 3000 million years, called the Lal Bagh Rock. The Glass House, a later addition to the Garden, now hosts a permanent flower show. The garden gets a festive look every year on Independence Day and Republic Day.

CUBBON PARK
Laid out in 1864 by Sir Richard Sankey, the then Chief Engineer of Mysore, it is named after Sir Mark Cubbon, Bangalore's longest serving Commissioner. It is laid out on an area of about 300 acres. With their vibrant flowerbeds and luscious green lawns, this place is ideal for morning and evening walkers. The Park has elegant classical buildings such as the Visveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Government Museum, Aquarium, Venkatappa Art Gallery and Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall, all of which are well known.

BULL TEMPLE
Built by the city's original architect, Kempe Gowda, the Bull Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva's Vahana (vehicle), Nandi the bull. Here you can find a huge monolithic statue of the sitting bull that draws a large number of people to this place every day. This statue is kept glistening by regular applications of coconut oil. The statue is 4.5 meters tall and 6 meters long and has been at this place long before the present temple was built. Nearby is a Ganesha temple, Sri Dodda Ganapathi, which houses an enormous statue of the elephant-headed deity made of butter.

VIDHAN SOUDHA
Vidhan Soudha, built in the year 1954 is one of the major centers of attraction in Bangalore. The architecture of the building is based on the neo Dravidian style, with hints of Rajasthani, Chola and Kannada architecture. The building also houses a part of the Karnataka secretariat. The majestic looking Vidhana Soudha houses the State Legislature, and is the largest Secretariat in India. The building project was started in 1952 and took five thousand laborers, 1500 chisellers, masons and wood carvers four years to complete. It is built entirely from Bangalore granite and has floral motifs on stone carvings. It covers the area of 5,50,505 square feet, and is 700 feet long, 350 feet wide and is 150 feet high
BANGALORE PALACE
Built in the year 1887, Bangalore palace is a must see tourist spot in the garden city. It was built by Chamaraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore in 1887. The architecture of the palace is based on the Tudor style. The palace is situated in the middle of the Bangalore city making it easily accessible for the tourists. Covering an area of about 800 acres, the palace gives a look of the Windsor Palace of England and is famous for its elegantly carved woodwork.
TIPU'S PALACE
Tipu Sultan's Palace was built toward the end of the 18th century. It is built entirely from timber. The architecture, the layout and the overall look of the palace gives you the idea of the ethnic Mughal lifestyle. The fort and its remains present the history of the era in which it was built. It has a somewhat immature exhibition with extensive text about Tipu's life and his military conquests. The fort is noted for its beautifully carved arches on the gate. The construction of the Tipu palace was started by Haider Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan himself.

VENKATAPPA ART GALLERY
Venkatappa art gallery is a pleasurable treat for the art lovers. It has about 600 paintings on display. The art gallery also has some of the exclusive collections of scenic displays. It contains works from Khajuraho, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh and is dated back to the 10th century. There one can also see Buddhist figures from the fourth and fifth century Gandhara School, and Hoysala carvings from Belur, Halebid, and Hampi
