To commemorate the birth centenary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a planetarium named Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium was established in the year of 1989 in Bangalore. The planetarium was established in order to create awareness among the students as well as the general public regarding the subject of Astronomy.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium has an observatory, equipped with a six inch code refractor telescope. The sky theater of the planetarium has a dome of a diameter of fifteen meter. The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium has an arrangement to accommodate 225 people to watch the shows on Astronomy. The planetarium arranges two shows daily, one at 3 pm and the other one at 4:30 pm. The shows at the planetarium are held on all days except on Mondays.
