Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka houses some of the country’s leading industrial and entertainment complexes. The city is also eminent for its historic landmarks and natural beauty. Among the city’s innumerable lake, the Hebbel Lake deserves special mention.
Bangalore Government has undertaken several measures for the development and maintenance of the state’s natural resources and splendor. The lakes and water bodies of Bangalore are in a deplorable condition owing to years of neglect. Thus the city’s civic bodies are now trying to reduce the pollution levels, prevent disposal of biodegradable waste materials and ensuring regular cleanup of the weeds choking the water flow.
Hebbel Lake one of Bangalore’s picturesque lakes captivates tourists with its mind-blowing charm. The beauty of the lake is at odds with its chaotic urban milieu. Strategically located in the northwestern extremity of Outer Ring Road with the Bellari-Hyderabad flyover in its propinquity, the lake is swarming with multitude of tourists throughout the year.
Hebbel Lake is a popular hangout zone, frequented by tourists and local residents alike. The surroundings offer a pleasing quietude, an oxymoron amidst the city’s hustle and bustle. People can relax at leisure and absorb the scenic beauty. Quiet evenings spent watching the blazing gold-amber sunsets, which transformed the sky to a greenish hue and the solitary lake to a gleaming mirage of quicksilver, are a pleasant break from the humdrum of mundane city life.
The sylvan lake is dotted by trees that sway to and fro in the balmy evening zephyr and give refuge to the love struck young couples. Families, tourists and couples can also opt for boating trips in the evening that give them the opportunity to explore the lakes.
It is unfortunate that the vestiges of time and shoddy maintenance have resulted in the deterioration of the lake’s natural splendor. Karnataka Government along with several environmental agencies is trying their level best to revive the odoriferous murky waters contaminated with slime to their former days of glory.
