Shiva Temple is situated on the Airport road in Bangalore. The temple was built in 1995, behind the well known Kemp Fort. The huge concrete statue of Lord Shiva is 65 feet tall. The statue depicts Lord Shiva in the position of Padmasan or lotus position. The depiction is very similar to that in Hindu mythology, at the background is Lord Shiva's heavenly abode, Mount Kailash and the river Ganges flowing from his locks.
The Shiva Temple has been constructed by the Melwanies who are associated with various charity institutions in Bangalore. The massive statue of Lord Shiva looks wonderful, especially during the night. It has been decorated with lights and during night it presents a majestic view with glittering light, the huge structure of the Lord and reflection of the idol on the shimmering waters. On special occasions like Mahashivratri, Holi, etc. pooja's are offered in an elaborate manner.
On the eve of Shivaratri festival, a grand festival is held in the Shiva Temple. There's a pond in front of the statue of Lord Shiva and it is believed that your wishes will be fulfilled by God, if you drop a coin in the pond while chanting 'Om Nama Shivaya' seven times and light a candle in front of the Lord. Just behind the idol, there is a cave and passing through the cave is called the Amarnath yatra. The temple is open to the public from 9 in the morning till 9 at night.
