St. Mark's Cathedral

St. Mark's Cathedral was constructed in 1926 in Bangalore on the M. G. Road. It is one of the oldest Anglican Churches of South India. It is a branch of the Church of South India (CSI). The building is grand with a number of Roman arches and a magnificent central dome. The Cathedral was founded in the year 1808 and given a final shape in 1812. The bell of the Cathedral is well maintained and amongst the most recent. The architecture of St. Mark's Cathedral was inspired by the 17th-century St Paul's Cathedral. While entering the Cathedral you can see the fine carvings on wood with the stately domes. In 1901, the building was expanded and rebuilt in the year 1927. The church is dedicated to St. Mark, one amongst the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. It is believed that St. Mark wrote the first Gospel.

St Mark's Cathedral is cream colored structure with artistic dome mounted over semi-circular chancel. The new structure is noted for its marvelous stained glass work. The white background of the dome is decorated with the flowers on the chancel creates a dreamy effect. The stained glass ventilators, the Altar and the stained glass around the altar, the pipe organ, and the roof over the Altar are some of the characteristic features of the architecture of St Mark's Cathedral.
