Bhavnagar is a sprawling industrial city and an important trading post for cotton products. Bhavnagar is located in the the eastern coast of Saurashtra, a peninsular part of the state of Gujarat and reflects the warmth and vibrancy of the culture of Gujarat.

The history of Bhavnagar reveals the benign rule of dynasties till it became part of the Indian Union. The name Bhavnagar was derived from the king's own name, the suffix nagar meaning a city.

A Rajput chieftain, Bhav Sinhji founded the city of Bhavnagar during the middle of f18th century. Located along the coastal Gujarat, it is a beautiful city that boasts of a rich kaleidoscope of history, art and culture.

There are many Tourist Attractions in Bhavnagar where Mahatma Gandhi went to the university. To get the real feel of the city, you have to tour the lively markets of the city - cloth bazaar, the silver bazaar and so on. Climb up the hill to Takhteshwar Temple from where you get excellent views of the city and the Gulf of Cambay.

How to Reach Bhavnagar

Bhavnagar is a coastal city in Gujarat. It is the fifth largest city in the state and has an area of 53.30 sq km. The city of Bhavnagar is situated around 134 km from Ahmedabad and around 194 km from Gandhinagar, the state capital.

Bhavnagar is well linked with major cities in the state, like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, etc by road, rail and air.

By Air

Bhavnagar Airport is located around 6 km south-east from the city center. The airport has s a single runway and a small terminal building.

At present, Jet Airways is the only airline which is operating to Bhavnagar from Mumbai.

By Train

Bhavnagar has its own railway station, the Bhavnagar Terminus, which is connected by daily trains from Ahmedabad, Surat and major cities of the state and neighbouring states. The station is located near the Lokhand Bazaar area.

By Road

Bhavnagar is well linked by road with neighbouring towns and cities in the state. Buses are operated by state-owned transport corporation and private operators like VTCOS. The main bus stand is about a kilometer from Ganga Jalia tank. Local buses, auto-rickshaw and taxis are best ways to travel within the city.

Most of the shopping places are located on Crescent Circle near the Clock Tower and Aysar, located at the Madhav Hill Complex. The main shopping center is located in Darbargarh area of the city.
