Historical background of Bhopal

Bhopal, the royal city in central India is known for various tourist attractions. Some of them are its beautiful lakes, hilly terrain, grand mosques, palaces, temples and modern buildings.
It has also added a feather in its cap for being a city of schools and reputed institutes for higher education. Bhopal also has a tragedy attached to its identity and it was the worst industrial disaster ever happened in the world. A little known US pesticide company Union Carbide India Limited accidentally released toxic killer gas in 1984, as a result of which some 10,000 people died within hours. 15,000 more died in the following years due to the after effects and illnesses developed by the poisonous methyl isocyanate. Some 500,000 people were affected by the tragedy. Bhopal got over this tragedy and is now a flourishing metropolis with all the amenities and infrastructure.
