The industry and infrastructure of the northern plains of Bihar include the numbers of sugar factories distributed all throughout. There are many rice and edible oilmills as well in this part of the state.
The industry and infrastructure here also includes some significant manufacturing plants among which mention may be made of the:
- Button Factory at Mehsi
- Arthur Butler and Company at Muzaffarpur.
- the Fertilizer Factory,
- the Oil (petroleum) Refinery Plant,
- the Thermal Power Station.
The chief agricultural based industrial products of Bihar are:
- Crops - rice, wheat, lentils, maize (corn), sugar cane.
- Fruits - mangoes, bananas, jack-fruit, and litchis.
- Fibers - silk and jute. These are taken to the factories situated chiefly near Kolkata for the finishing and export.
- Forest Products - these include the hard wood timber, saal and sakhua and also cane.
