Bihar being a stretch of fecund land is dowered with quite a number of rivulets that augment its grandeur to another level. The
rivers and lakes are demarcated as a pack of precious jewels that adorn the body of the state of Bihar. The prominent
rivers and lakes that make their way through the state of Bihar are mentioned below:-
- Ganges - This rivulet being one of the rivers and lakes of Bihar begins its boisterous sojourn through the heart of India from the Gangotri glacier that is sited in the state of Uttaranchal.
It paves its way into the eastern domain of India before emptying into the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges collaborates with other rivulets like the Kosi, Son, Gandhak and Ghaghra that creates an impregnable current that gathers force in the length between the Malda and Allahabad before passing into the city of Patna in Bihar.
- Son - After emerging from the state of Chhattisgarh, the Son river runs side by side with the Kaimur range towards the north-eastern direction and enters the premises of the state of Bihar. The Son rivulet ultimately unites with the mighty river Ganges in the midst of Patna.
- Bagmati - This rivulet is also counted amongst the rivers and lakes of Bihar that emerges from Nepal and makes its way through the Kathmandu Valley before entering Bihar.
- Kosi - The river Kosi is dreadfully regarded as the 'Sorrow of Bihar' as its rampant journey through the state of Bihar has led to cursed floods and famines.
- Budhi Gandak - This river after issuing from the Himalayas enters into the state of Bihar and covers districts like east Champaner, Mujaffarpur, Samastipur and Khagaria.
- Falgu - Being one of the illustrious tributaries of Ganges, the Falgu river is another river that spans across the vast terrain of Bihar.
