Sonepur Fair

Sonepur Fair is one of the most popular animal fairs in India. The cattle are traded in the Sonepur Fair of Bihar which is held in the northern part of the state on the banks of the holy river Ganga. Sonepur Fair of Bihar is also counted amongst one of the largest cattle fair in Asia.

Sonepur Fair is held on the full moon day of the month of Karthik which falls in November as per the English calendar as this day is considered to be very prosperous by the Hindus. Sonepur Fair in Bihar is held at the large fair ground of Sonepur.

The Sonepur Fair at Bihar comprises of a large variety of cattle on sale. Apart from the cattle, there are many other articles like handicrafts on sale. The main attraction of the Sonepur Fair at Bihar are the elephants on sale which are bought by the forest departments and people involved with logging business. Horses are also available on sale.

Apart from the markets, Sonepur Fair of Bihar is also famous for the various types of games, folk shows and jugglery organized for the entertainment of the people. Moreover, people do visit the Hariharnath Temple sited there on the auspicious day after taking a dip in the river Ganga.

You can visit Sonepur Fair at Bihar during November and December when it is organized. Reaching the venue of the fair is not difficult as you can take up any road transport such as bus or cab from Patna.
