Dolphin City, Chennai

The city of Chennai otherwise popular for beaches and temples also houses some very exciting amusement parks. Dolphin city in Chennai is one of the most renowned places of amusement in Chennai. One can find mention of this place among several travel guides to the place.

It is located at the ECR Road on the East Coast. It lies at a convenient distance of 46 kilometers from the main city of Chennai and one can spot this place at a distance of 10 kms from the famous Mahabalipuram.

The park constructed almost two decades ago, is one of its kind amusement parks in Chennai. Initially, the park was meant to be a house of dolphins as the name suggests and four dolphins were shipped here. The dolphins used to entertain the visitors with their performances which earned the park a lot of popularity but this could continue only till 6 months as the dolphins could not adapt to the climate and died one after the other. The management had to think of other options to keep the popularity of the park going.

It was then that the 'American Sea Lions' were brought to the park and the park became the first ever amusement park in the country to be a home to the American Sea Lions. The sea lions in the park amused the visitors with several tricks and activities that are taught to them. Besides, there are also several other water related activities to be undertaken while at the park. These include:

There is also an open air theatre in the premises of the Dolphin City. To satisfy the hunger pangs of the visitors, there are several multi cuisine restaurants located in the park. There is also a shop in the park which sells the swimming costumes, batteries, sunglasses, cameras, gift items etc at reasonable prices.

(NOTE: It is not allowed to carry any eatables from outside into Dolphin Park.)

Timings: The place remains open on all the days of the week between 10 am to 7 pm.
