Beaches in Chennai

The charming beaches in Chennai are the best retreat for tourists from the hot and humid weather of the fourth largest metropolis of India. Chennai beaches are world famous for their natural outlook. All the beaches in Chennai are bounded by groves.


Beaches in Chennai have their own importance-they share their boundary with Bay of Bengal. The Chennai beaches have its visitors ranging from the local public to the national and international tourists. Generally, if you visit the beaches in Chennai early in the morning then you can witness the spirit of fishermen when they go out for fishing.


There are three prominent beaches in Chennai :


  • Marina Beach : The second longest beach in the world lies on the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu. The sandy shore is the largest crowd puller. You can enjoy your evening or morning walk with crispy sundal and murukku available at food stalls on the beach.

  • Elliot Beach : This beach also lies on the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu near Besant Nagar. This beach is the favorite destination for the Chennai youth who gather here in the evening which is why it is also called night beach. You can go for sea bathing in this beach of Chennai.

  • Covelong Beach : This beach has now turned into a beautiful resort owned by Taj Groups of Hotels and named as Fisherman's Cove Resort. The beach is located on the way to Mahabalipuram and is separated from the mainland by a canal running from Chennai to Mahabalipuram.
