The
districts and cities of Chattisgarh together portray to what the newly formed state is today. There are 16 districts which have been divided for the convenience of better administration. They are Raipur, Bastar, Bilaspur, Durg, Janjgir-Champa, Koriya, Jashpur, Kanker, Kawardha, Korba, Mahasamund, Raigarh, Dantewada, Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon and Surguja.There are numerous cities in Chattisgarh that are important in their own right. The main cities are Bilaspur, Durg, Korba, Kota and Kanker among many others.
The state of Chattisgarh is bestowed with immense natural resources. It has fertile plains, rich deposits of minerals, areas of natural beauty, of archaeological importance, of historical importance as well as industrially sound areas. Places of tourist attraction include Amarkantak, Sirpur, Ratanpur, Dongargarh, Tala, Arang, Mainpat, Sheorianarayan, Rajim, Champaranya, Malhar, Bhoramdeo and Bheemkhoj. Sparkling water falls of Teerathgarh, Chitrakoot, Mandra, Dhoomar, Chitradhara, and Tamda and caves like those in Kutumsar, Kailasha, Sakal Narayan, Aranyak, Kanak, Tular, Rani and Makar are important. Dongare, Keshkal Valley, Dantewada, and Charama Valley also deserve special mention.
The
districts of Chattisgarh are generally rich in mineral or agricultural abundance. Nearly half of the state has forest cover. The verdant land, thus, houses some important sanctuaries and national parks in its vicinity. The
cities of Chattisgarh, on the other plane, are industrially sound.
The State is full of diversities as it houses several ancient monuments, rare wildlife, intrinsically carved temples, caves, Buddhist sites, palaces, water falls, rock paintings, and hilly tablelands spread over its various districts and cities. With so much treasure the government of Chattisgarh wishes to promote sustainable tourism to contribute ultimately to the economy of the state.
