Guru Ghasidas University opened its doors on 16th June 1983 after the promulgation of an Act of the State Legislative Assembly. One of the prominent members of the elite Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities, Guru Ghasidas University has been conferred the status of B+ by the university approval committee, the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Guru Ghasidas University had to overcome several hurdles to reach where its stands today. The university was christened after the legendary Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas who played a monumental role in elevating the social status of society's oppressed and underprivileged.
The university is the proud owner of two campuses with the main campus amidst the sprawling acres in Bilaspur and a recent auxiliary appendage has come up at Ambikapur in Surguja District of Chhattisgarh. The university's main campus overlooks the breathtaking locales of the burgeoning Bilaspur city along which the rippling Arpa River meanders by. The biggest advantage of the university's location is its excellent positioning that makes it accessible by rail, road and train with all other parts of the country.
