The Indian State of Chhattisgarh is blessed by the numerous water bodies. These comprise of several rivers and lakes of Chhattisgarh that provide the necessary water contributing much towards the fertile plains of the state. Agriculturally, the state of Chhattisgarh is one of the most productive areas in India.
The major rivers of Chhattisgarh are the Mahanadi, the Indravati and the Godavari, which drains most of the state along with their many tributaries. The rivers glide through the uneven topography of the state giving rise to gorgeous waterfalls that are famous as places of tourist attraction. The other rivers serving the sate are Rihand, Sukha, Hasdo, Arpa, Shivnath, Mand, Eb, Jonk, Pary, Kelo, Udanti and so on.
The state of Chhattisgarh is also served by numerous lakes. Some of these lakes of Chhattisgarh are natural, while many of them are man - made. In the flood prone areas, dams have been constructed for the prevention of further flooding. Such dams usually form a lake by it. Usually, the lakes formed are picturesque and serene and sometimes have islands in them. Such places have developed as popular picnic spots and tourist spots contributing ultimately to the economy of the state. The capital city of Raipur can be very rightly termed as the city of lakes. Numerous lakes like Burha Talab, Kho Kho lake, Maharajabandh Lake and Budhapara Lake dot the city. The presence of so many lakes certainly moulds the climate of Raipur.
