Bahujan Samaj Party in Chhattisgarh

The Bahujan Samaj Party in Chhattisgarh contested elections in the year 2003. Although the party was unable to win any seat in the legislative assembly of the state, this state political party of Chhattisgarh plays a pivotal part in representing the cause of the weaker section of the society in the state.

The Bahujan Samaj Party is a nascent political party as compared to the other national political parties like the Indian National Congress. The party was formed by Kanshi Ram in the year 1984. The Bahujan Samaj Party received the status of the national party from the election commission owing to its influence in several northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The party holds only a few seats in the parliament.

The Bahujan Samaj Party contested elections for 54 seats in Chhattisgarh in the year 2003. The party won two seats. The party received 429334 votes, which reflects the popularity of the party in the state. The two winning candidates were Lalsay Khunte from the Malkharoda constituency and Ku Kamda Jolhe from the Sarangarh constituency. Both the contestants were from the schedule caste constituencies of Chhattisgarh.

The Bahujan Samaj Party in Chhattisgarh has played a pivotal role in representing the cause of the underdeveloped section of the society. However ideologies of the party has poised limitations in the growth of the party although the party has spread its influence to more than four states of the country.
