Bharatiya Janata Party in chhattisgarh

The Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh has formed the government in the state after winning the elections in the year 2003. The national party of Bharatiya Janata Party or the BJP as it is popularly known as has been in the political scenario as an independent political party since 1980.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was formed as a descendant of the Baratiya Jana Sangh and formed an alliance with the Janata Party. The political party emerged as an independent party in the year 1980 after breaking its alliance with the Janata Party. Since then, the party has grown in national importance and has successfully held power in the state of Orissa, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and in the newly formed state of Chhatisgarh.

The total number of seats in the legislative assembly of the state of Chhattisgarh is for 90 members. The Bharatiya Janata Party of Chhattisgarh has won 53 seats of the total. The Chhattisgarh national party is supported by the various tribal parties of the state. 32 percent of the total population of the state comprises of the tribal communities who have a majority in 85 blocks of the 146 in the state. 34 seats in the state assembly of Chhattisgarh is reserved for the tribal parties of which 26 seats are occupied by the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh has ten seats reserved for its representatives in the Lok Sabha or the legislative assembly of the Union Government.
