Chhattisgarh Government

The existing Chhattisgarh government was formed in the year 2003 by the Bharatiya Janata Party after they procured the majority of seats in the state elections. The three divisions of the government of Chhattisgarh are the executive, legislative and the judiciary.

The executive body of the government in Chhattisgarh is headed by honorable governor, Shri E S L Narshimhan. He is the third governor in the state of Chhattisgarh. Before taking the charge of this office he was the Intelligence Bureau and the Ministry of External Affairs.

Dr Raman Singh is the chief minister of the state of Chhattisgarh. He was elected as an MLA during the elections of 1990 and 1993. Later in the year 1999 he was elected as a MP.

Shri Sivraj Singh is the chief secretary of the state of Chhattisgarh. The additional chief secretaries are Shri B K S Ray and Shri V K Kapoor.

The cabinet of ministers working under the guidance of Dr Raman Singh, leads different departments of the government. Shri Hemchand Yadav is in charge of food, water resources, civil supplies, transport, and labor and consumer protection. Shri Nanki Ram Kanwar is the minister in charge of the departments taking care of agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry and forest. The departments related to sports, youth and school education are taken care of by Shri Medha Ram Sahu.

There are various other departments and institutions functioning under the Chhattisgarh government. Some of them are related to tribal welfare, panchayat and rural development, revenue, law and legal affairs, etc.

In all there are ninety electoral constituencies in Chhattisgarh.
